We all know how shit the advertisments, including texts for the upcoming London Olympics looks...
but man check out this poster that Hockney did for the 1972 Munich Olympics.
I really don't get why they didn't hand him a couple of texters and maybe a few coloured pencils and let him go at it free hand.

AWM Coolness
Okay so one of the best parts of landing this pretty cool, well paid job at the Australian War Memorial is that I am based out at their conservation centre, The Treloar Annex.
You would not believe all the cool shit they have just lying around....Im going to take a bunch of photos over the next few weeks but this Gun Case is pretty much my favourite thing, well apart from the last all male public service workspace, but that's for another day.
The Label for the case says: Stages in the Australian manufacture of the Lee-enfield 303 Rifle, Basic weapon of the Australian Infantryman in the Two World Wars and Korea.

George Shiras
The July 1906 issue of National Geographic featured its first ever wildlife photographs. Editor Gil Grosvenor printed 74 photos snapped by U.S. Representative and early conservationist George Shiras, beginning a long tradition of featuring wildlife photos in the magazine.
These photos were all taken on a 4x5, using glass plate negatives, which makes them even more amazing. Do you know how hard it is to take a portrait with a 4x5??? Its really involved and this guy was making tip wire deer photos at the turn of the century.
Check out the national Geo website photo collection, it is truly amazing.

Hockney Style
Anyway the only thing cooler than a Hockney painting is Hockney Style!
These are all from his book David Hockney Photographs.
The National Gallery in Canberra brought A Bigger Grand Canyon for $4.6 million, its worth every cent. But they have put it in the worst space in the entire gallery, above an elevator and you can't even see the picture! Last time I was there a bunch of teenagers were standing around picking their pimples underneath it!
